JK and Kindergarten
Children at this age are excited about Spanish and become
quickly engaged, They have fun and enjoy Spanish in greater
depth through songs, manipulatives, rhymes, games, movement
visuals and books. Children at this age are sponges for language
acquisition. Their desire coupled with their developmental
ability enables them to learn quickly. Retention of this information
is possible when Spanish is encouraged at home through cassettes/CD's,
computer programs, books, and parent involvement by reviewing
lessons as often as possible. In addition to learning vocabulary
listed above in the pre-K section, children will begin to
string together phrases and gradually form sentences. Communication
(speaking to and understanding) among classmates will be encouraged.
How can you encourage your child?
- Express enthusiasm.
- Gently encourage your child to use Spanish.
- Ask your child to teach you what he or she has learned.

- Allow them to listen to an appropriate show on a Spanish
station to hear the flow of the language.
- Count stairs in Spanish as you go up or down.
