All early childhood students in Nursery School, Prekindergarten, Junior Kindergarten, Kindergarten, and Kindergarten Enrichment benefit from the following:

  1. Classrooms set up with choice areas: Writing Table, Art Creations, Music, Discovery/Investigation,Reading/Listening Center, Drama, Puzzles and Games, and Touch Tables.

  2. Circle Time/Meeting Time: Nursery Schoolers and Prekindergartners start class with "Circle Time". Jr. Kindergarten, Kindergarten, and Kindergarten Enrichment students start each class with morning or afternoon meetings. This quiet time together helps create a sense of unity and encourages our connectedness as a school family. This is a time for the calendar, classroom helpers/job chart, the weather chart, "share and tell", finger plays, and singing songs. We discuss the composer of the month and character development themes. We also discuss our theme of the week or month and give children an overview of the day's activities in all the choice areas.

  3. The Spanish Language: Spanish is introduced and taught weekly, recognizing it is an important second language.

  4. A strong music curriculum, including a composer of the month: Music is essential in developing a child's creativity.

  5. Outside playtime: Outside playtime offers the opportunity for children to release energy and explore their outdoor environment. Children enjoy two playgrounds, fields or riding tricycles and scooters on the blacktop.

  6. Field trips: These provide positive and exciting experiences away form the school environment.

  7. Intraschool class visits: Classes visit each other to share accomplishments and to praise fellow students, as well as to join together in activities.

  8. Monthly classroom news: This news is from teachers and includes the theme, activities, and any field trips or special days that will take place.

  9. Lesson plans: Detailed weekly lesson plans are posted on parent communication bulletin boards.

  10. Parent/Teacher conferences and progress reports: These occur twice a year. The progress of each student is documented in portfolios which include each child's work exemplifying his or her continued growth. These are kept on each student beginning in Nursery School and follow each student from year to year. To ensure that every student receives the best in support, we work with Region 10 Special Services and other Special Education professionals to provide each child with all he or she needs and are entitled to in his or her educational development process.

  11. The Academy Family: All students and teachers get to know each other as we all work as a team to support the best educational experience for all of our students.
