            Welcome to The Burlington Academy of Learning . . . "Where Children and Families are Celebrated!"

 

            The Burlington Academy of Learning is a school for young children, ages 6 weeks through 6th grade, offering a warm environment and unique experience where children and families are welcomed and supported. We strive to bring out the beauty and uniqueness in every child and support parents to be the best parents they can be.

 

            The Academy offers exceptional programs including our Infant and Toddler Programs,

2 and 3 Year Old Nursery School, PreKindergarten, Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten. We also offer Summer Camp – Hot Stuff Summer Camp for preschool children and Adventure Camp with Jump Start Tutoring, for children entering Kindergarten through 6th grade! In keeping with our goal to support parents and "the family", we offer extended school day options such as our Before School Program, Lunch Bunch, and our After School Program and Homework Club for children through 6th grade. We also offer a Supplemental Care Program, which offers care for children during holidays and vacations.

 

The Academy experience enhances all aspects of a child's development: personal, emotional, social, physical, moral, spiritual, and cognitive. This takes place in an environment rich in comfort and warmth where our faculty and staff members nurture our students. The superior educational experience your children receive at The Burlington Academy is a critical investment in your child, which lays a strong academic foundation for their future.   As new Early Childhood Education research continues to prove the importance and criticality of education during the early years, we find the needs of the young child have increased.  Therefore, we continue to offer a high level of excellence in our programs to adequately nourish children at their present stage of life, and prepare them for Kindergarten and the years beyond. Our faculty is educated on all the Connecticut State Department of Education Early Learning Developmental Standards, the newly revised standards for early childhood education.  Our teachers are also CPR, First Aid, Medications administration, and Epi-pen administration certified. Additionally, we are currently working toward becoming accredited with the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), in an effort to continually pursue schoolwide improvements on every level.  

 

The Academy’s exceptional curriculum focuses on the vital components of healthy social and emotional development, and early intellectual and literacy education to prepare children for the new expectations of full day Kindergarten and beyond. Elements of our curriculum include, but are not limited to: "Handwriting Without Tears", Character Development Education, Second Step (a social and emotional skills program), Composers of the Month, Artists of the Month, Science, Computers and Technology (exposure in appropriate and small doses), Cooking, Yoga, special visitors, and field trips, in addition to enrichment such as Music, Spanish, and Sign Language Classes.  Small class sizes allow for the individual attention children need, and our three buildings, two large playgrounds, and 6 acre campus offer a variety of learning environments. We are open from 6:30am-6:30pm for the convenience of families and accommodate children for extra classes whenever we are able to make life easier at times when a family needs such support.  We maintain superior standards and high teacher qualifications to continue offering children the very best early childhood experience possible in the Farmington Valley. 

 

We rely on our 25 years in the community, our well-earned reputation and word-of-mouth testimony to inform new parents about our school and the exceptional programs offered at The Academy.  We appreciate parents spreading the word, and through our Family Referral Program, families receive a $100 tuition credit on their student’s account when they refer another family who enrolls with us.

STUDENT PLACEMENT


Criteria (factors) for decisions regarding your child's class placement:

  • Child's learning style
  • Teacher's style
  • Boy/girl ratios
  • Student personalities
  • Number of students
  • Age of student
  • Composition of ages in other classes
  • Developmental level of child (physical, language, social, emotional, and independence level).
  • Behavior
  • Space availability

Parent opinions and preferences are always welcomed and considered, but cannot always be followed. The school must make all final decisions about student placement.

  

2017-2018 FINANCIAL INFORMATION

  • The 2017-2018 “School Year” calendar dates are August 30, 2017 through June 8, 2018.

The 2017-2018 “Year Round” calendar dates are August 30, 2017 through August 24, 2018.

  • A one-time $100 non-refundable registration fee is required of all new students at the time of registration. 
  • A $250 non-refundable deposit is given at the time of registration to begin the enrollment process for the upcoming school year for our students enrolled in “Day Programs”.  This deposit is not an additional fee, but is deducted from the total tuition amount.
  • A $100 non-refundable deposit is given at the time of registration to begin the enrollment process for the upcoming school year for public school students enrolling in our Supplemental Programs (Before/After School Program, Homework Club, Vacation/Holiday Programs, Snow Days).  This deposit is not an additional fee but is deducted from the first invoice in September.

The Infant Program and Toddlers/Twos Program in our Jr. Academy, do not require a school year commitment. Parents are kindly asked to give as much notice as possible if leaving, (minimum of two weeks notice is preferred) so we may attempt to offer the space to another child which keeps enrollment steady. This prevents us from having to decrease staff hours, keeping our staffing more consistent, a very important factor for young children. 2 Year Old Nursery School - Kindergarten Programs do require a school year commitment (September -June). This policy is essential to insure the highest quality of programs and commitment to our teachers.

 

TUITION EXPRESS: For the convenience of parents and to keep administrative costs down, tuition is paid in equal monthly installments collected through Tuition Express.  These tuition payments are automatically debited from a bank account (checking or savings) or, if necessary, charged to a debit or credit card on the last day of each month.  Upon receipt of the completed program registration form with registration fee and deposit, parents receive a letter confirming their child’s registration in the program selected.  Parents also receive information on how to authorize payments through Tuition Express.  Once the registration with deposit and Tuition Express account setup is finalized, a child’s placement in their class is secured.  If you wish to change your payment method at any point in the school year, new paperwork must be submitted by the 25th of the month.

 

SIBLING DISCOUNT: The Academy offers a 5% sibling discount for both siblings, for all Day Programs with a minimum of a 2 full days/week program per sibling.  The sibling discount does not apply to single SCP days, Before/After School Programs, Homework Club, and Summer Camp (except when included in year round tuition).

 

BEFORE/AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS and HOMEWORK CLUB PROGRAM: Parents are required to register for each and every year since attendance details and information must be updated, and give a $100 deposit which comes off the September fees.  Upon receipt of your completed registration form with registration fee (new students) and deposit, parents receive a letter confirming their child’s registration in our Before/After School Programs and/or Homework Club.  Before and After School Program tuition is paid on a monthly basis through Tuition Express (see above). Total cost for programs attended are paid automatically through parents’ Tuition Express account on the last day of each month.

 

SUPPLEMENTAL CARE PROGRAM, SNOW DAY PROGRAM and/or EXTRA CLASSES: Payment for extra classes and our Snow Day Program are paid through Tuition Express. Payment for the Supplemental Care Program is due at the time of registration. Payments may be made by check placed in the locked boxes or you may swipe a credit card at the check-in station in the Junior Academy Office or Main Office.

 

SUMMER CAMP: Summer Camp registrations are needed by May 1st to secure excellent staff and adequately prepare for Summer Camp!  Registrations received after May 1st must include a $50 late registration fee. Tuition options are to pay in full at the time of registration or to pay 50% at time of registration and pay balance on or before June 1st. All summer camp must be paid in full prior to start of camp.

 

CARE 4 KIDS PROGRAM - The Burlington Academy participates in the State of CT “Care 4 Kids Program”. To apply, parents need to download forms from www.ctcare4kids.com and submit the completed forms to our Main Office.  We will complete the school’s section and submit to Care 4 Kids. Responses are given to both the school and parents. Care 4 Kids does not cover the entire cost of tuition and parents are required to pay the difference.
